Winter & Company’s Special Needs Studio has been recognized as one of the top firms in the country for programming and design of educational and living spaces for the deaf, blind and people with special needs.

Schools and housing providers for the deaf, blind and people with special needs are increasingly examining the adequacy of their facilities. This examination includes a review of fundamental design assumptions.

We work closely with clients to determine whether an existing facility may be successfully renovated or whether a new facility is needed to meet the functional and aesthetic requirements of the deaf, blind and people with special needs.

John Dickinson, who leads the Special Needs Studio, has been profoundly deaf since the age of two. As an experienced architect, he is able to capture the intricacies of the deaf, blind and special needs environment to design settings that encourage performance and growth.
